The U.S. Attorney in Washington State was let go because he refused to pursue the obvious voter fraud that gave our current Democrat governor a 129 vote victory on the third (King County kept finding more uncounted ballots) count. Didn't Clinton fire all of them when he came to power? As to the Supreme Court making Bush Prsident, there were two decisions, one 5-4 and one 7-2, either of which influenced Gore to end the fight. Essentially, the U.S. Supremes told the Florida (all Democrats) Supreme Court that they could not rewrite Florida election law.

My recollection of the original flap over Justice was not their hiring practices so much as their firing practices. If Federal attorneys at state level were not willing to "work with" Karl Rove and local Republican officials to bring questionable or groundless cases against local Democrats, those Federal attorneys were fired. We now know that's exactly what happened in about a dozen cases and people from White House staff and Justice have apparently "resigned to spend more time with their families", to avoid further embarrassment to the Administration. However, the selection of Bush to be president by the Supreme Court in 2000 is certainly the most flagrant example of illegal ideological process in recent years.
