Burn the American flag; fine, just exercising free speech. Place a crucifix in a glass of urine; okay; that’s freedom of expression. Build a mosque a stones throw from Ground Zero; of course, it demonstrates our tolerance. Burn a couple of hundred Qurans; whoa, that’s bigoted, racist and, according to the State Department, un-American.
It is profoundly stupid but the Rev. Terry Jones of the Dove World Outreach Center in Florida has the constitutional right to poke a stick into a hornet’s nest. Unfortunately he may not be the only one stung. On ABC’s Nightline, General Petraeus expressed concern that the Quran burning would place our troops in greater danger. In the same show, Rev. Jones said, “If they don’t do it (burn the Qurans), when do we stop backing down?” Apparently the good reverend thinks we have been “backing down” in Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Somalia and wherever else Islamic terrorist hide out. Close to 6,000 American military deaths belie that view.
Ask God for a new message Rev. Jones; clearly you misinterpreted that last one.
