Obama’s Preemptive Meaculpa

Columnist Robert Novak wrote that the Clinton campaign had some dirt on Barack Obama but had no plans to use it. (Yeah, right!). Obama launched a preemptive counterstrike by admitting to a Dallas high school audience that he had abused alcohol and drugs as a teenager. This gave Rudy “I’m a sinner too.” and Mitt “I’m not.” the opening to tout their virtues or lack of same on an issue best left to the Democrats to wallow in. If anything, Mitt and Rudy should have attacked the “I know a secret but I won’t tell.” (wink, wink) tactics of the Clinton machine just as reminder to voters of what to expect in 2008.
